1965 Crown ‘Churchill’

Following his death on the 24th January 1965, the Royal Mint, struck a cupro-nickel crown in 1965 to commemorate the life of British politician and statesman, Sir Winston Churchill. Churchill was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955.

The obverse features the profile of Queen Elizabeth II with the year 1965 and the Latin phrase ‘ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.’

The tails depicts a profile of Churchill’s face as well as his name etched on the side
